“Atlas, this won’t work if you don’t trust me” “I’m not letting you in my head” (Atlas)
The Hidden Review has watched Netflix sci-fi thriller Atlas, the upcoming movie. In addition to Brad Peyton as director, Jennifer Lopez, Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Abraham Popoola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong star in the movie Atlas written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite.
The plot
Essentially, the film depicts the use of AI, which nowadays has become more “efficient” than ever. The thing is that AI is among the most intelligent anomalies. It coexists with humanity. We are still trying to discover its full potential every single day.
Themes
The film uses this topic as its main theme. The story’s influences seem to be more about the trust that we give to technologies. It also touches on the trust between humans.
As stated in the film, “Human beings are difficult to trust.” However, from Atlas’s (López’s character) perspective, AI is even more difficult to trust. This is due to her past which is intertwined with all her pain and progress.
Performances
Atlas is the character that Jennifer Lopez plays. Her noteworthy performance is very consistent throughout the whole motion picture. She is not the only star alongside actors like Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, Abraham Popola, Lana Parrilla, and Mark Strong. The performances of these actors were instrumental in moving the character’s stories along their different journeys.
Since the film mainly focuses on a lead female character’s journey, she encounters various challenges. Her character also experiences different subplot stories. Among these, the ultimate aim seemingly is to take down Arlan played nicely by Simu Liu, for instance. However, her true goal is to rely on humanity and AI. This might be unthinkable until the movie is over. Her character reaches the highest point of climax and has to make a life or death decision to survive.
References
The movie’s concept reminds us of a 20-year-old movie. “I Robot” (2004) featured Will Smith as the lead. In style, it is different but similar. Both focus on the trust between humans and technology. They have quite different timelines. Their target generations also differ. Thus, they exist at different times. Technology influences our daily lives. It shows a similar yet distinct evolution.
A different mood can be felt through their use of CGI. This technique dramatizes the movie. It also displays how technology has become one of the main factors in raising the visual value of the movie. This enhancement makes it extraordinarily believable.
The story sets forth some very important ideas regarding trust between humans and the use of technology. It highlights both good and bad characters. Furthermore, it is all about one common point of contact and, hence, synchronization of trust.
Atlas is available on Netflix in May 24.
