Oscar®‑nominated producer Lynette Howell Taylor takes the helm of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as new officers are announced for the 2025–2026 term.
Producer Lynette Howell Taylor has been elected president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, marking a pivotal new chapter for the organization that oversees the Oscars®. The Board of Governors selected her for the 2025–2026 term, underscoring her long‑standing commitment to championing bold, diverse cinema and her deep experience within the Academy’s leadership structure.
New 2025–2026 Academy officers
Alongside Howell Taylor’s election, the Academy Board of Governors confirmed a slate of new officers for the 2025–2026 year, each chairing key committees that shape policy, membership, awards and governance:
- Lesley Barber (Music Branch) – Vice President and Membership Committee Chair
- Jennifer Fox (Producers Branch) – Vice President and Awards Committee Chair
- Simon Kilmurry (Documentary Branch) – Vice President/Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair
- Lou Diamond Phillips (Actors Branch) – Vice President and Equity and Inclusion Committee Chair
- Howard A. Rodman (Writers Branch) – Vice President/Secretary and Governance Committee Chair
This leadership team brings together perspectives from music, producing, documentary filmmaking, acting and writing, reflecting the Academy’s multi‑disciplinary membership and its ongoing focus on equity, inclusion, fiscal responsibility and awards integrity.
Lynette Howell Taylor’s career and new role
Howell Taylor begins her first term as Academy president during her second term as a Producers Branch governor, after already serving as vice president and Awards Committee chair for three consecutive years. That experience places her at the center of how Oscar® rules and procedures have evolved in recent seasons.
As a producer, she has worked on over 25 films, including the Oscar®‑nominated A Star Is Born, which received eight Academy Award nominations, among them Best Picture. Her filmography includes widely acclaimed titles such as:
- The Accountant
- Captain Fantastic
- Blue Valentine
- Half Nelson
- The upcoming Roofman
In addition, Howell Taylor co‑produced the 92nd Oscars® ceremony in 2020, earning an Emmy® nomination for her work on the live telecast. This combination of hands‑on producing experience—both on set and on the Oscar® stage—positions her to guide the Academy through a rapidly changing awards landscape, from evolving theatrical windows to the role of streaming platforms in awards season.
Board terms, officer limits and Academy governance
Under current Academy rules, Board of Governors members may serve up to two three‑year terms, whether consecutive or non‑consecutive. After completing those six years, they must observe a mandatory two‑year hiatus before becoming eligible for an additional two terms, allowing for a maximum of 12 years of board service over time.
Officers—including the president and vice presidents—serve one‑year terms and are limited to four consecutive years in a given office. These term limits are designed to balance continuity and renewal, ensuring that the Academy benefits from both experienced leadership and a steady influx of new voices at the top levels of governance.
