Plot overview: love, second chances and the Eternal City
At the center of Blame It on Rome is Billie (Gabrielle Union), a smart, tough New York art executive who travels to Rome to secure an invaluable painting for a career‑defining deal. Her carefully controlled life collapses when her fiancé confesses that he is in love with someone else: in the emotional aftermath, Billie blows up the negotiation, loses the deal and, with it, her job and her entire life plan.
Instead of returning to New York, Billie decides to stay in Rome and give herself permission to finally live on her own terms. Between aperitivi, chance encounters and a whirlwind of dates, she embraces the city’s spontaneity — until she discovers that she is pregnant and genuinely has no idea who the father is.
To untangle the mystery, Billie hires Tommaso (Michele Morrone), a private investigator, to retrace her steps and piece together the truth. As they roam the streets and hidden corners of Rome, their initial friction turns into mutual charm and, eventually, a spark of real love, pushing both characters to confront their deepest fears and to find the courage to open themselves to a new future.
The film promises a blend of humor, emotion and scenic escapism, grounded in the timeless allure of Rome and the universal theme of second chances.
