The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and YouTube have entered into a new multi‑year global partnership that will make YouTube the exclusive home of the Oscars starting in 2029. Beginning with the 101st Oscars ceremony and continuing through 2033, the awards show will stream worldwide on YouTube.

Under the deal, the full Oscars experience will be available live and free to viewers around the world on YouTube, from the red carpet and behind‑the‑scenes coverage to the Governors Ball and additional live elements. Audiences in the United States will be able to watch via YouTube TV, while the platform will support the Academy’s growing international reach with accessibility features such as closed captioning and multiple‑language audio tracks.

Expanded Oscars and Academy programming on YouTube

Film fans will find a wide range of Academy events and programs beyond the live ceremony itself available exclusively on the official Oscars channel on YouTube. This includes the Governors Awards, the Oscars nominations announcement, and the Oscars Nominees Luncheon, as well as the Student Academy Awards and the Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards.

Additional content will include interviews with Academy members and filmmakers, film‑education initiatives, podcasts, and year‑round programming designed to connect audiences with the global film community and the Oscars brand.

Collaboration with the Academy Museum and Google Arts & Culture

The collaboration also extends to the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and its extensive collection through Google Arts & Culture . Through this initiative, users will gain digital access to select Academy Museum exhibitions and programs.

Portions of the Academy’s film collection—comprising tens of millions of items—will be digitized to create an easily accessible global hub for cinema lovers online, expanding the reach and educational impact of the Academy’s archival holdings.

Leadership perspectives: Bill Kramer, Lynette Howell Taylor, and Neal Mohan

Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Lynette Howell Taylor describe the agreement as a comprehensive global partnership that positions YouTube as the future home of the Oscars and supports the Academy’s annual slate of programs. They emphasize that the Academy is an international organization and, through this deal, will be able to connect its work with a broader worldwide audience, benefiting both Academy members and the wider film community while preserving the Oscars’ legacy and inspiring new generations of filmmakers.

Neal Mohan, CEO of YouTube, calls the Oscars a vital cultural institution that celebrates excellence in storytelling and artistry. He notes that bringing the ceremony to viewers everywhere on YouTube honors the show’s history while sparking new creative passion among film fans around the globe.

Transition from ABC to YouTube

The Academy’s current domestic broadcast arrangement for the Oscars with ABC, part of The Walt Disney Company, will remain in place through the 100th Oscars ceremony in 2028. Its international partnership with Disney’s Buena Vista International will likewise continue until then.

The new YouTube exclusivity will take effect with the 101st Oscars, marking a historic shift in how the Academy Awards are distributed and experienced worldwide, as one of cinema’s most prestigious events moves fully into a global, streaming‑first future.
