Prime Video has announced a new multi-year agreement with Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD) that will make HBO Max available to millions of customers across Europe. Under the deal, Prime Video will now distribute HBO Max in Italy, Germany and Austria. It will also expand its existing collaborations with WBD in France, Spain, the Netherlands, Sweden and Belgium.
HBO Max subscription
HBO Max will be offered as an add-on subscription for Prime Video customers in the three countries. This gives them access to WBD’s premium catalogue, including HBO Originals, Max Originals, Warner Bros. films and DC titles, all within a familiar Prime Video experience. Viewers will be able to choose between Basic with ads, Standard and Premium plans, plus an optional Sports add-on.
Prime Video members will get front-row access to some of the most talked-about HBO Max titles, including:
- the latest epic chapter in the Game of Thrones saga, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (January 19)
- the Emmy-winning medical drama The Pitt
- One Battle After Another, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Oscar-nominated, four-time Golden Globe–winning film, which will make its streaming debut at launch
- upcoming DC film Superman, as well as Weapons and The Conjuring – The Last Rite, the latest New Line Cinema horror releases
Iconic films and tv series
Fans will also be able to dive into evergreen hits like the Harry Potter films and iconic series such as Friends and The Big Bang Theory.
The deal also includes a strong slate of local HBO original series and films from Germany and Italy. German highlights include 4 Blocks Zero, a prequel to hit series 4 Blocks, and the heist drama Banksters. Italian productions include:
- Melania Rea – Oltre il caso, focused on the shocking 2011 murder case
- Portobello by Marco Bellocchio, about Enzo Tortora, wrongly accused and tried
- docuseries Gina Lollobrigida: Diva Contesa and Saman – La verità nascosta, the latter exploring a young woman’s fight for freedom
Local theatrical titles will also stream on HBO Max in 2026, such as Wunderschöner from Warner Bros. Pictures Germany and Italian films Nonostante, starring Valerio Mastandrea, and Squali, the powerful directorial debut of Daniele Barbiero with Lorenzo Zurzolo and James Franco.
Sport
With the Sports add-on, subscribers will be able to watch major live events including the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, the Australian Open and Roland Garros.

Elisabetta Carruba, Director, Prime Video Channels, EMEA, said the company is “very happy to welcome HBO Max on Prime Video in Italy, Germany and Austria,” calling HBO “synonymous with top-quality content” and describing the move as a key step in Prime Video’s goal of becoming “the first entertainment destination” for customers.
Qaisar Rafique, EVP, Head of Commercial Development, EMEA & APAC at Warner Bros. Discovery, highlighted that 2026 will be a pivotal year for HBO Max, as it rolls out in some of the world’s largest economies. He noted that Prime Video’s reach will help WBD “entertain as many people as possible” in these new markets and called the collaboration proof of “the quality of our storytelling” and the strong global demand for HBO Max’s award-winning content.
The agreement further strengthens WBD’s global relationship with Prime Video. HBO Max is already available as an add-on channel in the United States, Mexico, Colombia, France, Spain, Sweden, the Netherlands and Belgium. Adding Germany, Austria and Italy underscores both the value of HBO Max’s content and the international scale of Prime Video’s platform.
