Today at 3pm, BFI Distribution unveils the brand-new UK trailer and poster for Rose of Nevada, the third feature film from award-winning Cornish director Mark Jenkin. The time-travelling drama stars George MacKay. His works include For Those in Peril, Femme, and 1917. It also stars Callum Turner, known for Eternity, The Boys in the Boat, and Masters of the Air. The film will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on 24 April 2026, with a BFI Blu-ray and BFI Player release to follow in the summer. Distributor 1-2 Special is launching a localised version of the same trailer simultaneously in the US. This launch is ahead of the American release on 19 June.

A Ghost Ship, a Broken Village, and a Tear in Time
When the fishing boat Rose of Nevada – lost with all hands 30 years earlier – mysteriously reappears in the old harbour of a forgotten Cornish village, it is impossible to ignore. For those who still remember the tragedy, the vessel’s return feels like a sign. The boat must go back to sea, and maybe then the village’s battered luck will finally turn.
Young father Nick (George MacKay) is desperate for work to support his family, while enigmatic newcomer Liam (Callum Turner) is just as desperate to outrun a past he can’t quite shake. They join seasoned captain Murgey (Francis Magee) and set out on a fishing trip that seems, at first, almost ordinary.
Slipping Back to 1993
When the crew returns to harbour, satisfied with their haul, something is subtly, disturbingly wrong. The village looks the same, yet not quite. The people who greet them behave as if they have seen ghosts – and, in a way, they have. Nick, Liam and Murgey slowly realise they have slipped back in time to 1993, and the villagers believe they are the original crew of the Rose of Nevada, returned from the sea after three lost decades.
As the men grapple with this fracture in time, the film probes memory, grief and fate, asking whether a community can rewrite its own history – and what it might cost to do so.
Mark Jenkin’s Singular Filmmaking
Rose of Nevada follows Mark Jenkin’s BAFTA award-winning debut feature Bait (2019) and his acclaimed folk-horror Enys Men (2022). Unique among British feature filmmakers for his analogue craft, Jenkin once again writes, directs, shoots and edits his own work. For Rose of Nevada he also handles sound design and composes the original score, deepening his signature, hand‑made aesthetic.
All of Jenkin’s features are made in Cornwall and shot on 16mm using a Bolex clockwork camera, with all dialogue and sound added in post-production. This meticulous process gives Rose of Nevada its tactile, timeless look – an approach that mirrors the film’s obsession with what time erases, and what it refuses to let go.
Festival Journey
Rose of Nevada had its world premiere in August 2025 at the Venice International Film Festival, where Jenkin’s bold blend of folklore, realism and genre storytelling drew international attention. The film then received its UK premiere in Official Competition at the BFI London Film Festival, further cementing Jenkin’s reputation as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary British cinema.
UK & Ireland Release and Director Q&A Tour
Rose of Nevada will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on 24 April 2026. The release will be preceded by a three-week director Q&A tour with Mark Jenkin, taking the film to audiences around the country. Dates and participating cinemas will be announced in March.
