A24’s new feature THE MOMENT will make its U.S. streaming debut exclusively on HBO Max on Friday, May 29, before premiering on HBO’s linear channel on Saturday, May 30 at 8:00 p.m. ET. Centered on the fragile line between authenticity and image in contemporary pop culture, the film continues the bold, auteur‑driven slate that has defined A24’s collaboration with visionary filmmakers.
Story: pop stardom on the edge
THE MOMENT follows a rising pop star as she navigates the escalating pressures of fame, a demanding music industry and her own expectations while preparing for her first arena tour. As rehearsals intensify and the spotlight grows harsher, personal relationships, creative control and mental health collide, forcing her to decide what she is willing to sacrifice for the performance of a lifetime.
Ensemble cast
The film is led by global music artist Charli XCX, who stars as the pop performer at the center of the story and also originated the film’s concept. She is joined by an eclectic ensemble including Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Arielle Dombasle, Hailey Benton Gates, Kylie Jenner, Trew Mullen, Mel Ottenberg, Isaac Powell, Rachel Sennott, Rish Shah, Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Workéyè.
Creative team
THE MOMENT is directed by Aidan Zamiri, whose visual sensibility bridges music video, fashion imagery and narrative filmmaking, bringing a distinctly stylised, performance‑driven approach to the screen. The screenplay is written by Aidan Zamiri and Bertie Brandes, based on an original idea by Charli XCX, expanding her creative work beyond recording and live performance into long‑form storytelling.
The film is produced by Charli XCX, p.g.a., and David Hinojosa, p.g.a., whose experience in independent film production supports THE MOMENT’s blend of intimate character study and high‑gloss pop spectacle. Together with A24 and HBO Max, the team brings a behind‑the‑curtain perspective to the making—and unmaking—of a modern pop icon.
