The British Film Institute (BFI) today announces the dates for the 39th edition of BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival. It is the UK’s largest celebration of queer cinema. The festival runs from March 19 to 30, 2025, at BFI Southbank. It showcases the best contemporary LGBTQIA+ films from around the world. The program includes special events and curated archive screenings.
#FiveFilmsForFreedom Marks 11 Years of Global Impact
Celebrating its 11th year in partnership with the British Council, the #FiveFilmsForFreedom initiative continues to make an impact. It presents five powerful films streaming for free worldwide. The 2024 selection featured stories from the Philippines, India, Spain, the USA, and the UK. These stories drew over 3 million digital views. Since 2015, over 26 million viewers in 200+ countries have engaged with these shorts, available UK-wide on BFI Player.
Submissions Open for 2025 Festival
Filmmakers worldwide are invited to submit their work for the 2025 edition. Final deadlines for online submission forms and screeners, across all categories, are Friday, December 6, 2024, at 5 p.m. GMT.

- Short films (up to 25 minutes)
- Short films (26–50 minutes)
- Feature-length films (51+ minutes)
