“So…you knew?” (So…you knew?)
The Hidden Review had an opportunity to see So…You Knew?, a play written and performed by Bartolomeo Bartolini and directed by Maria Cristina Petitti, at Barons Court Theatre. This one-man show is an optimistic investigation of the climate change crisis. It is serious at the same time. The delivery is rather lively and highly captivating. The show took place in a week of variable weather.
Bartolini’s energy on stage is truly infectious and thus he manages to keep the audience charmed and enthralled throughout. He depicts the progression of events from the 1980s up to the 21st century. He even predicts what is going to happen in the future. Besides, he switches between characters seamlessly. Three of them are major characters, especially Willie. Willie is a scientist who understands the connection between carbon dioxide emissions and the greenhouse effect. At the same time, he is good at managing his personal life.
The use of a single projector adds depth and breadth to the story. It creates a fresh sensational effect on the audience. The light and sound effects accompany the images. They are exquisite in quality. These effects maintain the audience’s attention till the end of the performance. Petitti’s directing is very effective in bringing the character on stage. She simultaneously interacts with the audience through a quiz. Additionally, she uses dance, song, different languages, and the rapidity of the events. These are some of the ways she employs to keep the energy constant.
So…You Knew? is not only a show to amuse and provoke thought. It also delivers a clear message. It forces the viewers to remember the climate challenge is a serious issue. This issue cannot be neglected. It is incumbent upon humanity to reverse the trend and care for Mother Earth sustainably.
On the whole, So…You Knew? is an eminently recommended stage event. It combines laugh, lightness, and trust in tomorrow. It also serves as a firm plea for environmental protection. Hence, it is a i.e. theatrical genre enthusiast that impacts will welcome it.
